Staff Council Celebrates 20 Years

Events through­out July include Staff Picnic

For its 20th anniver­sary, UNM Staff Coun­cil has extended the tra­di­tional Staff Appre­ci­a­tion Week to a full Staff Appre­ci­a­tion Month through­out July.

The Staff Coun­cil rewards and recog­ni­tion com­mit­tee orga­nizes Staff Appre­ci­a­tion events, with spon­sor­ship by uni­ver­sity part­ners. All events except the Staff Pic­nic are free. Staff can get prize entries at each event, with draw­ings at the pan­cake break­fast on Thurs­day, July 29.

Thurs­day, July 1, noon-1 p.m.
The Staff Coun­cil work+life com­mit­tee presents the Greg John­ston Sum­mer Con­cert Series at the “Mod­ern Art” sculp­ture on the Cor­nell Mall, near the south entrance to the Stu­dent Union Build­ing. The con­cert, with sup­port from the Divi­sion of Stu­dent Affairs and the UNM Foun­da­tion, fea­tures DeV­illins. Chartwells will make grilled lunches avail­able. Free ice cream will also be available.

Fri­day, July 2, 4:30–7 p.m.
DeV­illins gives an encore per­for­mance dur­ing Staff Appre­ci­a­tion Happy Hour at the Fac­ulty Staff Club. The club spon­sors the band as well as appe­tiz­ers and a cash bar. The club is open to non­mem­bers dur­ing the event.

Thurs­day, July 8, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Ath­let­ics spon­sors an ice cream social at the Cor­nell Mall on main cam­pus, Stu­dent Sup­port & Ser­vices Cen­ter on south cam­pus, and Health Sci­ences Cen­ter, loca­tion to be announced.

Thurs­day, July 15, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Trade books, music and movies at Books from Staff for Staff, pre­sented by the Staff Coun­cil envi­rons and park­ing & trans­porta­tion com­mit­tees at three loca­tions, SUB ball­room A on main cam­pus, Health Sci­ences and Ser­vices Build­ing 167 on north cam­pus and SSSC 1002 on south cam­pus. Bring bags. The Staff Coun­cil envi­rons com­mit­tee reminds all staff to reduce, reuse and recy­cle. Book drop-off points will be announced. Those donat­ing get early bird access, 9–10 a.m.

Tues­day, July 20, noon-12:45 p.m.
Meet staff coun­cilors at the Staff Coun­cil 20 Year Cel­e­bra­tion at the patio area on the sec­ond floor of the SUB, near the Cherry Sil­ver room. in the SUB Santa Ana room. Refresh­ments will be served. The recep­tion is fol­lowed by a Staff Coun­cil meet­ing, 1–3 p.m., called to order by spe­cial guest past-University Sec­re­tary Anne Brown, who called the first coun­cil meet­ing to order on July 11, 1990.

Sat­ur­day, July 24, 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
Dur­ing the annual UNM Staff Pic­nic, staff and their guests get all-day admis­sion to the Albu­querque Biopark and Zoo for $5 per per­son. Din­ner, included with the ticket price, is served 6:30–8 p.m. at the zoo. A valid Lobo Card is required for ticket pur­chases. Tick­ets are avail­able at the main cam­pus UNM Book­store, Basic Med­ical Sci­ences Build­ing room G49 (8:30–11:30 a.m. only), Phys­i­cal Plant Depart­ment Ser­vice Build­ing and cashier’s offices at Gallup, Taos and Valen­cia cam­puses. Credit cards are not accepted for ticket pur­chases at Book­store, PPD or branch loca­tions. The pic­nic is pre­sented by the Staff Coun­cil rewards and recog­ni­tion committee.

Thurs­day, July 29, 7:30–9 a.m.
UNM admin­is­tra­tors serve a pan­cake break­fast spon­sored by the Divi­sion of Human Resources in the SUB ball­rooms. The theme is Red Hot and Lobo Cool Café. Present a Lobo Card for admission.
