Events throughout July include Staff Picnic
For its 20th anniversary, UNM Staff Council has extended the traditional Staff Appreciation Week to a full Staff Appreciation Month throughout July.
The Staff Council rewards and recognition committee organizes Staff Appreciation events, with sponsorship by university partners. All events except the Staff Picnic are free. Staff can get prize entries at each event, with drawings at the pancake breakfast on Thursday, July 29.

Thursday, July 1, noon-1 p.m.
The Staff Council work+life committee presents the Greg Johnston Summer Concert Series at the “Modern Art” sculpture on the Cornell Mall, near the south entrance to the Student Union Building. The concert, with support from the Division of Student Affairs and the UNM Foundation, features DeVillins. Chartwells will make grilled lunches available. Free ice cream will also be available.
Friday, July 2, 4:30–7 p.m.
DeVillins gives an encore performance during Staff Appreciation Happy Hour at the Faculty Staff Club. The club sponsors the band as well as appetizers and a cash bar. The club is open to nonmembers during the event.
Thursday, July 8, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Athletics sponsors an ice cream social at the Cornell Mall on main campus, Student Support & Services Center on south campus, and Health Sciences Center, location to be announced.
Thursday, July 15, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Trade books, music and movies at Books from Staff for Staff, presented by the Staff Council environs and parking & transportation committees at three locations, SUB ballroom A on main campus, Health Sciences and Services Building 167 on north campus and SSSC 1002 on south campus. Bring bags. The Staff Council environs committee reminds all staff to reduce, reuse and recycle. Book drop-off points will be announced. Those donating get early bird access, 9–10 a.m.
Tuesday, July 20, noon-12:45 p.m.
Meet staff councilors at the Staff Council 20 Year Celebration at the patio area on the second floor of the SUB, near the Cherry Silver room. in the SUB Santa Ana room. Refreshments will be served. The reception is followed by a Staff Council meeting, 1–3 p.m., called to order by special guest past-University Secretary Anne Brown, who called the first council meeting to order on July 11, 1990.
Saturday, July 24, 9 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
During the annual UNM Staff Picnic, staff and their guests get all-day admission to the Albuquerque Biopark and Zoo for $5 per person. Dinner, included with the ticket price, is served 6:30–8 p.m. at the zoo. A valid Lobo Card is required for ticket purchases. Tickets are available at the main campus UNM Bookstore, Basic Medical Sciences Building room G49 (8:30–11:30 a.m. only), Physical Plant Department Service Building and cashier’s offices at Gallup, Taos and Valencia campuses. Credit cards are not accepted for ticket purchases at Bookstore, PPD or branch locations. The picnic is presented by the Staff Council rewards and recognition committee.
Thursday, July 29, 7:30–9 a.m.
UNM administrators serve a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Division of Human Resources in the SUB ballrooms. The theme is Red Hot and Lobo Cool Café. Present a Lobo Card for admission.
