Two New Outpatient, Specialty Clinics Open at UNM Psychology Clinic

Two new outpatient, specialty clinics are now open at the UNM Psychology Clinic. One of the clinics is for patients with alcohol use disorders, while the other is for patients with anxiety disorders. Both will provide low-cost (sliding scale) assessment and behavioral treatment for patients experiencing alcohol or anxiety problems.

Services for alcohol problems will include assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, relapse prevention and referral sources. A similar range of services will be available through the anxiety clinic. Services will primarily be provided by graduate students in the Clinical Psychology training program at UNM, who will be supervised by licensed clinical psychology faculty who have extensive experience and nationally recognized expertise working with clients with these concerns. The clinics began accepting new patients and referrals this past March.

The opening of these clinics reflects the latest trends in clinical science in that it represents a shift both in how treatment is provided and how treatment providers are trained.
