Greg Johnston Summer Concert & BBQ Features The Rudy Boy Experiment

The Staff Council Work+Life committee kicks off Staff Appreciation Month with the Greg Johnston Summer Concert and Barbecue on Thursday, July 7 from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Betty Sabo Modern Art sculpture, near the south entrance of the Student Union Building.

The concert will feature the Rudy Boy Experiment, a local blues and rock band featuring Rudy Boy Jaramillo on guitar and vocals, Dave Pankuch on bass and Ricardo Sanchez on drums. The band has received notable awards including the New Mexico Rock Mainstream Award, and become regulars on the L.A. scene, playing at places like Whisky A Go Go, Crain’s Hollywood Tavern and the Lava Lounge in Long Beach.

For $5 you can purchase a freshly grilled hamburger or hot dog (vegetarian option available) chips, ice cream sandwiches and lemonade.

The Greg Johnston Summer Concerts are named in honor and recognition for Johnston’s work as founder of the concerts on behalf of the Staff Council Work+Life committee. The concerts are intended to provide a noon-hour respite for UNM employees and students. Johnston, who worked in the University Communication and Marketing Department as a Sr. University Communications Specialist, died in Feb. 2007 after a battle with cancer.

The concert is supported by the UNM Staff Council and its Work+Life Committee, and sponsored by the Division of Students Affairs and the UNM Foundation.
