Keres Consulting, Inc., an Albuquerque-based government contractor that specializes in asset management and sustainability, engineering and environmental support services, recently volunteered to assist in mitigating flood risk following the disastrous aftermath of the Las Conchas fire. Keres staff helped fill some of the 30,000+ sandbags at the Santa Clara Pueblo in preparation for the summer monsoon season. Among Keres staff, Alicia Ortega a UNM student in the Anderson School of Management and a summer intern at Keres Consulting, was especially happy to help in the effort as she is from the Pueblo of Santa Clara.

The Las Conchas fire burned tens of thousands of acres in the Santa Clara canyon and incinerated miles of vegetation around the tribe’s headwaters leaving the pueblo vulnerable to high runoff and erosion. Members of the Albuquerque staff gathered last week at the Santa Clara Pueblo Senior Center to help in this effort to protect the community from possible flooding disasters in the future.

Keres is thankful to be a member of both the business community and the Native American community and we are saddened by the devastation and damage that the Las Conchas fire has caused,” said Keres President/CEO Timothy Chavez. “We feel that it is our corporate responsibility to help our neighbors in Santa Clara Pueblo, especially in this time of need.”
