KNME’s Science Cafe Presents “Saved by the Sun”

As the Earth heats up at a dangerous rate and fossil fuels become scarcer, ordinary citizens and businesses are bypassing the federal government to lead the way in exploring a clean, renewable source of power: the sun. But can everyday people really make a difference by using solar power? And can solar technologies truly play a bigger role in powering the future of humanity? On Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., KNME’s Science Café presents “Saved by the Sun.” Science Café will be held at KNME’s Studios located at 1130 University Blvd., NE.

View a clip from NOVA titled, “Saved by the Sun” and then join in a discussion with Research Assistant Professor Olga Lavrova from University of New Mexico’s Electrical & Computer Engineering Department to learn about solar energy research in New Mexico.

This Science Café is designed to be for the entire family. Parents and grandparents are strongly encouraged to bring their budding engineers and scientists along. Admission to the Sceince Café is free, but a reservation is required. Seats are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. RSVP to Rose Poston, community outreach coordinator, KNME Education & Outreach Department at 277‑2396 or rposton@knme.org.

KNME Science Cafes are presented with support from UNM Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, Applied Research Associates, and Sandia National Labs.
