UNM Hosts Past Fulbright Recipients with Guest of Honor Harriet Fulbright

The Albu­querque Coun­cil for Inter­na­tional Vis­i­tors (ACIV) and the Ful­bright Asso­ci­a­tion New Mex­ico Chap­ter hosts three sep­a­rate lec­tures with prior Ful­bright Schol­ar­ship recip­i­ents Kather­ine Ped­er­sen Blan­chard, Mary Therese McCoy and Brenna Moore on Wednes­day, March 7 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Ortega Hall, third floor read­ing room.

Har­riet Ful­bright, widow of Sen. J. William Ful­bright, after whom the pro­gram is named, will serve as the guest of honor and pro­vide brief open­ing remarks about the program.

Kather­ine Ped­er­sen Blan­chard, an Albu­querque native, accepted a Ful­bright Eng­lish Teach­ing Assist­ant­ship in Bel­grade, Ser­bia after grad­u­at­ing with a Bachelor’s degree in the­atre arts and polit­i­cal sci­ence. While over­seas, she con­nected with DNAWORKS, an arts and sci­ences orga­ni­za­tion based in Santa Fe, N.M. After return­ing to the United States, she accepted a posi­tion with DNAWORKS as an exec­u­tive assis­tant. Her talk, “The­ater Dah and the Pur­suit of Non-violence in Ser­bia,” focuses on her expe­ri­ences abroad.

Mary Therese McCoy explores “Fos­ter­ing Busi­ness Rela­tions Between Mex­ico and the USA,” and the time she spent in Mex­ico under her Bina­tional Busi­ness Ful­bright Fel­low­ship, which she accepted after grad­u­at­ing with a Master’s degree in inter­na­tional rela­tions with a Latin Amer­i­can concentration. Because of her learn­ing expe­ri­ences abroad, McCoy gained employ­ment with Mer­rill Lynch, the State of New Mex­ico, he City of Albu­querque and with the A.T. Kearney’s Global Busi­ness Pol­icy Coun­cil in Wash­ing­ton, D.C. She cur­rently lives in Albuquerque.

Brenna Moore received a Ful­bright Young Jour­nal­ism Award in Ger­many, an oppor­tu­nity she chose over a recently awarded posi­tion as deputy edi­tor of the New Mex­ico Free Press. In Ger­many, she worked for two pro­fes­sional pub­li­ca­tions: Focus and The Inter­view Peo­ple. Moore high­lights the dif­fer­ences between Amer­i­can and Ger­man press in a talk titled, “Work­ing with the Ger­man Media.” She cur­rently works as a com­mu­ni­ca­tions spe­cial­ist for the Envi­ron­men­tal Stew­ard­ship Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
