Room in Santa Clara Hall
Students who are interested in living on campus this fall have a wide and appealing range of residential living choices. UNM is spending $1.5 million to renovate Student Residence Center apartments.
Over the summer, the 250 units near the heart of the UNM Main campus will be given new carpet, tile, furniture, cabinets, and bathroom fixtures. One apartment building has been designated as a special living option for seniors, graduates and non-traditional students who are completing advanced coursework.
The university recently renovated the Laguna/De Vargas Complex as part of an ongoing residential renewal program. One area of this residence hall will feature special programming and activities to address the needs of second year students. Academic coaches will be available for students who need assistance and the students in this hall will work directly with UNM alumni who are now actively pursuing their careers.
This fall one floor will be set aside in a residence hall for students who are interested in environmental issues, outdoor recreational activities and more. Residents will have an opportunity to learn about and participate in a variety of outdoor activities.
Santa Clara Hall has been designated as the language hall. Students who want complete immersion in Spanish and Portuguese can participate in study groups integrated with their courses. There will also be special cultural programming.
UNM is also offering deluxe single housing. This is a room originally designed for two that has been modified for single occupancy. Deluxe Singles are larger than the standard single room and come with twice the storage capacity.
UNM Associate Vice President for Student Life Walt Miller says student housing is expected to be completely full by the beginning of the fall semester. Nearly 4,000 students will reside on campus in fall 2012.
