Welcome Back Days” Set for Aug. 17–24 at UNM Duck Pond

The UNM Stu­dent Activ­i­ties Cen­ter presents its annual “Wel­come Back Days” event Aug. 17–24. Events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UNM Duck Pond. Each day fea­tures a vari­ety of infor­ma­tion tables, free food and live entertainment.

Wel­come Back Days has been a cam­pus tra­di­tion for well over 30 years now and it really helps to ease stu­dents, fac­ulty and staff into the aca­d­e­mic year,” said Ryan Lindquist, asso­ciate direc­tor, UNM Stu­dent Activ­i­ties Cen­ter. “It’s more than free food, live enter­tain­ment and great infor­ma­tion. It is also UNM’s first oppor­tu­nity to bring our com­mu­nity together and cel­e­brate our con­nec­tion as Lobos.”

Casino games, Henna tat­toos, karaoke and free food are a few of the events hap­pen­ing dur­ing Fri­day Night Live at the Stu­dent Union Build­ing on Aug. 17 from 8 — 11 p.m.  And, if you have never seen a movie under the stars, stop by John­son Field at 8 p.m. to watch the sum­mer hit, “The Avengers” on a 30’ tall screen. The movie and pop­corn are free, just bring a friend and a blanket.

On Sun­day, Aug. 19, UNM’s Class Crawl will be held at the North SUB Mall imme­di­ately fol­low­ing Fresh­man Convocation.

Mon­day, Aug. 20 — UNM President’s Ice Cream Social
Start the week off right with FREE Ice Cream served to you by Uni­ver­sity VIPs at the Duck Pond bus stop south of Uni­ver­sity House! There will be infor­ma­tion booths from the UNM Schools and Depart­ments plus live music and ice cream by the Duck Pond from noon — 1 p.m.

Tues­day, Aug. 21 — Safety, Health, Well­ness and ROTC Day
Enjoy free mas­sages, a climb­ing wall, pinatas and FREE Water­melon! Booths from the Safety, Health, Well­ness and Recre­ation depart­ments will be at the Duck Pond. ROTC booths will be located on the SUB Mall. Great Live Music and healthy food from noon — 1 p.m. Free movie: “The Avengers” starts at 8 p.m. in the SUB Theater.

Wednes­day, Aug. 22 — Women’s and Cul­tural Day & North Cam­pus Wel­come Back Day
Infor­ma­tion about all of the eth­nic, cul­tural and women’s cen­ter pro­grams and depart­ments. Cul­tural enter­tain­ment will run through­out the day by the Duck Pond. Look for UNM muse­ums and stu­dent art dis­plays as well. Enjoy a long­stand­ing tra­di­tion of Wel­come Back Days free green chile stew! Free movie: “The Avengers” starts at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the SUB Theater.

Thurs­day, Aug. 23 — Stu­dent Orga­ni­za­tion Day
Meet stu­dent lead­ers from around cam­pus and learn how to get involved with the over 400 stu­dent orga­ni­za­tions on cam­pus. Lis­ten to great live music at the Duck Pond from noon — 1 p.m. while ASUNM lead­ers serve free pizza and Pepsi. FREE movie: “The Avengers” starts at 3:30 p.m. in the SUB Theater

Fri­day, Aug. 24 — Com­mu­nity Ser­vice and Cam­pus Employ­ment Day
Look­ing for a job? Inter­ested in help­ing out in the com­mu­nity? Stop by! Uni­ver­sity depart­ments look­ing to hire stu­dents will be set up at an On-Campus Jobs Fair north of Ortega hall from 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. They will have infor­ma­tion about their work­study and stu­dent employ­ment posi­tions. Com­mu­nity orga­ni­za­tions will be recruit­ing vol­un­teers for their worth­while events and causes. Alumni will serve free hot­dogs & Pepsi. Enjoy more live music from great local bands from noon — 1 p.m.

Free music and food runs daily from noon — 1 p.m., and infor­ma­tion booths from 9 a.m. — 3 p.m.
