Lecture to Address Health Reform After 2012

Theda Skocpol, pro­fes­sor of gov­ern­ment and soci­ol­ogy from Har­vard Uni­ver­sity, presents, “Will Health Reform Sur­vive and Flour­ish after 2012?, a pub­lic lec­ture, on Thurs­day, Sept. 20 from 7–9 p.m. at the Sher­a­ton Hotel, Air­port, Alvarado Ballroom.

Skocpol, the Vic­tor S. Thomas Pro­fes­sor of Gov­ern­ment & Soci­ol­ogy at Har­vard, is also the founder and direc­tor of the Schol­ars Strat­egy Net­work. Her lec­ture sets out the prospects for con­tin­ued expan­sion of access to health care in the United States and exam­ines the role that demo­c­ra­tic engage­ment can play in the process of health reform.

Skocpol is one of America’s lead­ing social sci­en­tists, the author of numer­ous books on social pol­icy and health care reform, includ­ing the award win­ning Pro­tect­ing Sol­diers and Moth­ers, and Health Care Reform and Amer­i­can Pol­i­tics co-authored with Lawrence Jacobs. An updated edi­tion of the lat­ter title was released by Oxford Uni­ver­sity Press ear­lier this month, fol­low­ing the recent Afford­able Health Care Act Supreme Court deci­sion. Skocpol is a mem­ber of the National Acad­emy of Sci­ences, the Amer­i­can Philo­soph­i­cal Soci­ety and Amer­i­can Acad­emy of Arts and Sci­ences, for­mer pres­i­dent of the Amer­i­can Polit­i­cal Sci­ence Asso­ci­a­tion and for­mer direc­tor of the Cen­ter for Amer­i­can Polit­i­cal Stud­ies at Har­vard University.
