Operation Gratitude, Treats for Troops Drive Underway

Operation Gratitude, Treats for Troops has become a popular tradition.

Want a “sweet” way to get rid of extra Halloween candy this year. Donate it to support American troops serving overseas. UNM Staff Council’s Work+Life committee is collecting candy for Operation Gratitude through Friday, Nov. 16.

Operation Gratitude is a collection drive providing civilians with ways to express appreciation to members of the United States military. Donations of wrapped candy are sent in care packages to soldiers serving overseas. The committee is also collecting socks (not white), and winter attire such as knit hats, gloves, scarves, hand/foot warmer packets and travel-size video games.

The many donation sites this year include the Johnson Center, Business Center, Student Residence Center commons on main campus, and Family Practice Center, room 344 and UNM Children’s Campus on north campus.

In addition to the collection sites around campus, the Staff Council has partnered with Athletics to accept donations from the community. A UNM Recycling box truck will be located in the parking lot of the Howl Zone at the Lobo Football game Saturday, Nov. 17 from 11:30 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. to accept donations from the community.
