UNM to Host 3rd Annual OUT Loud: Bullying Prevention Community Forum

The University of New Mexico’s LGBTQ Resource Center, in collaboration with the Don’t Just Stand There, Stop Bullying Now Task Force, presents the 3rd Annual OUT Loud: Bullying Prevention Community Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 30 from 4–6 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Student Union Building, Lobo rooms A&B. The forum is open to all.

There will be two panels: one of individuals sharing personal bullying stories and another of individuals who represent resources available to those being bullied. In addition, there will be a “safe room” available for anyone who may need it, as well as a number of organizations tabling with information and resources that can help those who are being bullied or who wish to work on bullying prevention.

The Community Forum on Bullying Prevention was created in response to a number of nationally reported cases of teen suicides that resulted from homophobic bullying and harassment in 2010. Since then, media coverage of suicides continues, but more importantly, so does the hate and discrimination that youth experience.

The Don’t Just Stand There, Stop Bullying Now Task Force members comprises UNM’s LGBTQ Resource Center, the APS Safe Schools Healthy Students, Bernalillo County Parks & Rec, AGORA and Strong Families NM.

For more information, contact the LGBTQ Resource Center at 277‑0834.
