The University of New Mexico Staff Council Employee Life Committee collaborates again with the Animal Humane Association of New Mexico on the 5th annual “Happy Tails Drive for Homeless Pets,” running Monday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Dec.10.
“Research shows that owning a pet helps people lead healthier lives reducing stress and encouraging exercise,” said Kathy Meadows, UNM staff. “Unfortunately, a growing number of pet owners are surrendering their animals to agencies due to the economic downturn. Not everyone is able to adopt, but our committee is providing a way to donate to shelters to ensure homeless animals are cared for and to fill an unmet need this holiday season.”
A variety of items are needed this year such as peanut butter, distilled water, towels, unscented bleach and large paper grocery bags. A complete list is available at “Wish List.”
When you are out shopping this Thanksgiving weekend, please don’t forget about the homeless animals in the shelters awaiting adoption.
