The University of New Mexico’s 2012 United Way fundraising campaign is now underway through Friday, Dec. 14. Last year, UNM/UNMH raised more than $1 million for United Way of Central New Mexico.
President Robert Frank said, “The University of New Mexico has an ambitious goal for the United Way. In addition to the contributions that many across campus continue to provide, we are looking to individuals and areas that have either not contributed or might contribute at higher levels to help us achieve a goal of $1 million.” He added that United Way contributions can be earmarked for specific agencies, many of which exist on campus.
There are more than 2,000 individual UNM funds where donors can designate their contributions. Following are but a few. If you have questions regarding a possible fund designation, call Judith Davenport (277‑9600) or Annette Hazen (277‑9628).
Agora-UNM Crisis Center
Center for Disability & Development
Children’s Psychiatric Center
Emergency Eye Care Program
Graduate Scholarship Fund
Need-Based Scholarship Fund
Presidential Scholarship Program
UNM Scholarship Fund
UNM Unmet Student Financial Need Fund
Donors may also direct their contribution to the United Way Community or any 501(c )3 non-profit organization. The Community Fund supports dozens of local organizations throughout Central New Mexico working with at-risk children, the elderly, victims of family violence and other neighbors in need.
And thanks to the Corporate Cornerstones Programs, which underwrites administrative costs, 100 percent of the money donated goes to the designated organizations.
Pledge options include a monthly payroll deduction, a one-time annual gift via check or credit card or pledging online. You will not receive a paper pledge form in the mail. In response to budget issues as well as in support of UNM’s sustainability initiative, you are invited to consider giving on a secure online pledge site located at UNM United Way.
“We ask you to consider making a contribution,” Frank said. “Whether it is through a $5 monthly payroll deduction, or something larger, your gift will make a difference.”
This year’s campaign is spearheaded by Paul Krebs, vice-president– athletics; Geraldine Forbes, dean– Architecture and Planning; Steve McKernan, CEO– Health Sciences and Nancy Ridenour, dean-College of Nursing.
