UNM’s Annual United Way Fundraiser Underway

The Uni­ver­sity of New Mexico’s 2012 United Way fundrais­ing cam­paign is now under­way through Fri­day, Dec. 14. Last year, UNM/UNMH raised more than $1 mil­lion for United Way of Cen­tral New Mexico.

Pres­i­dent Robert Frank said, “The Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico has an ambi­tious goal for the United Way. In addi­tion to the con­tri­bu­tions that many across cam­pus con­tinue to pro­vide, we are look­ing to indi­vid­u­als and areas that have either not con­tributed or might con­tribute at higher lev­els to help us achieve a goal of $1 mil­lion.” He added that United Way con­tri­bu­tions can be ear­marked for spe­cific agen­cies, many of which exist on campus.

There are more than 2,000 indi­vid­ual UNM funds where donors can des­ig­nate their con­tri­bu­tions. Fol­low­ing are but a few. If you have ques­tions regard­ing a pos­si­ble fund des­ig­na­tion, call Judith Dav­en­port (277‑9600) or Annette Hazen (277‑9628).

Donors may also direct their con­tri­bu­tion to the United Way Com­mu­nity or any 501(c )3 non-profit orga­ni­za­tion. The Com­mu­nity Fund sup­ports dozens of local orga­ni­za­tions through­out Cen­tral New Mex­ico work­ing with at-risk chil­dren, the elderly, vic­tims of fam­ily vio­lence and other neigh­bors in need.

And thanks to the Cor­po­rate Cor­ner­stones Pro­grams, which under­writes admin­is­tra­tive costs, 100 per­cent of the money donated goes to the des­ig­nated organizations.

Pledge options include a monthly pay­roll deduc­tion, a one-time annual gift via check or credit card or pledg­ing online. You will not receive a paper pledge form in the mail. In response to bud­get issues as well as in sup­port of UNM’s sus­tain­abil­ity ini­tia­tive, you are invited to con­sider giv­ing on a secure online pledge site located at UNM United Way.

“We ask you to con­sider mak­ing a con­tri­bu­tion,” Frank said. “Whether it is through a $5 monthly pay­roll deduc­tion, or some­thing larger, your gift will make a difference.”

This year’s cam­paign is spear­headed by Paul Krebs, vice-president– ath­let­ics; Geral­dine Forbes, dean– Archi­tec­ture and Plan­ning; Steve McK­er­nan, CEO– Health Sci­ences and Nancy Ride­nour, dean-College of Nursing.
