Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy Committee Endorses State Graduate Employment Credit

It took less than 30 seconds this morning for the Revenue Stabilization and Tax Policy committee of the Legislature to endorse the State Graduate Employment Tax Credit bill that will be introduced this coming session.

That’s the bill being spearheaded by UNM’s Graduate and Professional Students Association and mirrors legislation that came close to passage last session.

Briefly, a $5,000 tax credit would go to NM businesses that employ graduates from NM institutions who have earned masters or Ph.D degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, health care and mathematics.

The bill was previously endorsed by the Science, Technology and Telecommunications committee.  It’s being sponsored by Sen. Tim Keller.

Interim committees meet through next week.
