Campus Visits for Law School Dean Candidates Set

Four final­ists for the posi­tion of dean of the UNM School of Law have been invited to visit cam­pus over the weeks of March 4 and March 18. The can­di­dates will meet with fac­ulty, staff, stu­dents and com­mu­nity mem­bers dur­ing their visits.

The can­di­dates are:

Alfred
Mathewson

Alfred Math­ew­son
Pro­fes­sor of law and act­ing direc­tor of Africana Stud­ies at the Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico. Math­ew­son received his J.D. from Yale Uni­ver­sity. He served as asso­ciate dean for Aca­d­e­mic Affairs from 1997–2002 and is cur­rently the Henry Wei­hofen Chair in Law. Math­ew­son will inter­view on March 4–5.

Bar­bara Bergman

Bar­bara Bergman
Pro­fes­sor of law and interim dean of the School of Law at the Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico. Bergman received her J.D. from Stan­ford Law School. She has served as interim dean since Octo­ber 2012 and pre­vi­ously served as asso­ciate dean for Aca­d­e­mic Affairs from 2008–2012. Bergman will inter­view on March 6–7.

Melanie Wil­son
Pro­fes­sor of law and asso­ciate dean for Aca­d­e­mic Affairs at the Uni­ver­sity of Kansas. Wil­son received her J.D. from Uni­ver­sity of Geor­gia grad­u­at­ing magna cum laude. She also served as a senior admin­is­tra­tive fel­low at the Uni­ver­sity of Kansas from 2012–2013. Wil­son will inter­view on March 18–19.

David Her­ring
Pro­fes­sor of law and co-director of the Clinic Pro­grams at the Uni­ver­sity of Pitts­burgh. Her­ring received his J.D. from Uni­ver­sity of Michi­gan grad­u­at­ing magna cum laude. He also served as dean from 1999–2005, interim dean from 1998–1999 and asso­ciate dean for Aca­d­e­mic Affairs from 1996–1998 at Uni­ver­sity of Pitts­burgh. Her­ring will inter­view on March 21–22.
