Sánchez to Deliver Keynote for Treaty Day at the State Capitol

On Feb­ru­ary 2, 1848, offi­cials from the United States and the Repub­lic of Mex­ico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo at Guadalupe Hidalgo, a city north of the cap­i­tal where the Mex­i­can gov­ern­ment fled with the advance of U.S. forces, thus end­ing the Mexican-American War. On Sat­ur­day, Feb. 2, 2013, from noon to 2 p.m. the UNM Land Grant Pro­gram is orga­niz­ing, Treaty Day Com­mem­o­ra­tion at the New Mex­ico State Leg­is­la­ture, also in con­junc­tion with pend­ing leg­is­la­tion. The event is being held in the Rotunda.

Joseph Sánchez, direc­tor of the Span­ish Colo­nial Research Cen­ter, a part­ner­ship of the National Park Ser­vice and the Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico, has been asked to deliver a keynote speech for the event. His keynote is, “Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, Land Grants, and His­panic Her­itage in New Mexico.”
