The Women's Resource Center and the Office of Student Affairs are sponsoring a 20-hour women's self-defense course titled, Safety Awareness and Defense Friday-Sunday, May 17-19. The course, presented by IMPACT Personal Safety, will be offered to UNM students, faculty and staff at a reduced cost of $50 (normally $450).

IMPACT Personal Safety is a nonprofit organization that empowers children and adults by teaching them to prevent and defend themselves against verbal, physical and sexual violence. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, IMPACT reaches children, teens, adults and the elderly in Northern and Central New Mexico.

Conceptual seminars teach the origins of violence and how to assess risk and set boundaries for healthy relationships. Experiential classes teach hands-on interpersonal skills and strategies to prevent and stop assault. IMPACT reaches individuals and communities through partnerships with schools and other nonprofits, community groups and Pueblos, as well as classes for the public.
