African American Student Services (AASS) kicked off the Black History Month with a flag raising ceremony, adding the Pan African flag to the U.S. and New Mexico flags flying in front of Scholes Hall. The tradition has been done annually at UNM for more than 22 years.
(l. to r.): UNM President Garnett S. Stokes sits with Jaron Kee (BA/MD Program), Dr. Leslie Strickler (Professor of Pediatrics), Dr. Vanessa Svihla (Associate Professor, OILS), and students Lauren Zundel (Physics) and Sumit Patel (BA/MD). The students and faculty were honored for various accomplishments by the New Mexico House of Representatives and Senate at UNM Day.
To kick off the semester, students were treated to treats and Lobo swag as they learned more about departments, resources and organizations at UNM.
