Past President Renee Delgado-Riley’s thoughts…

…On Staff Council:

Remember why you serve. You were elected by your peers to improve their workplace experience. It can be exhausting to advocate for a community that often gets left out, but staff are the backbone of UNM. Sometimes we may not see the immediate impact of our work but keep moving forward with your service with Staff Council because future staff depend on it.

Thank you to every Staff Councilor who has given their time, expertise and talents to the organization. UNM is a better and healthier place for staff because of this work. Even though I no longer work at UNM, I miss Staff Council and the many wonderful colleagues I had the honor of working alongside.

…On her Presidency:

There were a lot of things we tackled during my Presidency; however I think the one that was the most successful was the development of our first strategic plan. This was a guide for moving our organization forward and helping us be more efficient and tailor our work to best meet our constituents’ needs. I was also really proud of the creation of the Supervisor Award and how supportive Human Resources and the President’s Office were in bringing it to fruition.

…On current challenges facing staff:

Ambiguity may foster anxiety; however, community is what we all need to get through these unprecedented times. We must work together to ensure our colleagues are okay. Community building is critical, and we have to be more creative than ever to keep our spirits up and our colleagues together.
