The University of New Mexico today responded to a request for information from the Department of Justice for the compliance review announced in December. UNM met the DOJ deadline of Jan. 9, and is confident that the policies and procedures provided will demonstrate to the DOJ that the University is committed to creating a safe campus, and fair processes to all involved in these matters.

Among other things, the packet contains copies of University policies, procedures, guidelines, student conduct codes and training regarding sexual harassment, sexual assault and sexual violence. It also provides information on campus safety and police investigations, the University’s Title IX Coordinator, its Sexual Misconduct and Assault Response Team (SMART), its Women’s Resource Center, and documents regarding the University’s relationship with outside response organizations such as the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and Rape Crisis Center.

UNM’s participation in the DOJ’s review is ongoing. The DOJ did not indicate how long it would take to complete the review. Some material contained in the response is covered by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, therefore media seeking a copy must submit an Inspection of Public Records Act request and allow time for redaction of protected information.
