Every year since 2011, Lobos have traveled to New Orleans (La.) to participate in the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Program. Sponsored by the Dean of Students Office, ASB is a service-learning opportunity for UNM students where they will develop and use skills in the areas of home-building, teamwork and leadership.
Currently, the Dean of Students office seeks applicants for this adventure. Applications can be downloaded from the ASB webpage at Alternative Spring Break. Applications are due to the Dean of Students office by, the extended deadline, Friday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. The dates for the trip are Sunday-Friday, March 11-16.
Partnered alongside Camp Restore, an organization that helps to connect us with community service projects in and around the New Orleans area, students will participate in projects, some of which are in areas still feeling the effect of Hurricane Katrina over 10 years later. Students will also have opportunities to visit historical sites, learn about the culture and eat great food.
To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled students (undergrad or graduate students) for the 2017-18 academic year with a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
