During The University of New Mexico’s 2020 Homecoming week, join the Alumni Association as it presents a special Lobo Living Room: Astonishing True Tales of UNM's Early Presidents.

The event will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m.

This Lobo Living Room will feature University Archivist Portia Vescio, who will review “the good, the bad and the ugly of the first seven presidents in UNM's history,” from Elias Stover through James Zimmerman. Vescio will discuss the struggles that early leaders had with governors, regents and faculty on a regular basis – while also creating the foundation of what UNM is today.

Zimmerman-at-desk

Which president had no background in education and ran the University like a business? Whose son was expelled from UNM? Which president’s fight with his second-in-command was so disruptive that both men ended up resigning from the University? Learn more about who these men were and what their legacies are.

This presentation will also feature conversations with:
- UNM President Garnett S. Stokes

- Alumni Association President Chad Cooper

- Former UNM President Richard “Dick” Peck

- Former Alumni Association President Alexis Kerschner Tappan
