The UNM Alumni Association is hosting former New Mexico Historian Robert Torrez, for the upcoming Lobo Living Room: Voices From The Past.

Torrez will present at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 at Hodgin Hall Alumni Center with a reception and book signing following at 7 p.m.

During this Lobo Living Room, Torrez will dip into the vast treasure of untold stories held in New Mexico's Spanish, Mexican and Territorial period archives that discuss some of the accomplishments, triumphs and tragedies.

Torrez is one of New Mexico's most recognized, respected and honored historians. He has made many noteworthy contributions to support greater awareness of the richness and depth of the more than four and a half centuries of New Mexico history.

Torrez is a recognized expert on one of New Mexico's—and the Southwest's—most challenging issues: the question of New Mexico's land grants. Presenting countless lectures and discussions concerning this matter, he has served as a member of the Guadalupe Hidalgo Task Force created under the auspices of the New Mexico Attorney General's Office in order to assist the United States General Accounting Office conduct their ongoing study of New Mexico's grants.

Torrez has also contributed significantly to the preservation of New Mexico's historical documents and cultural properties. Despite his widespread recognition and his scholarly position, Torrez has also deliberately chosen to remain accessible to the many citizens struggling to understand their family, cultural and state history. It is part of his commitment to promoting the understanding and dissemination of the history that he clearly so deeply loves.

This Lobo Living Room presentation is free and open to the public. RSVPs are strongly encouraged as seating is limited to the first 90 guests. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for check-in. Hodgin Hall Alumni Center is located at 1889 Central Ave. NE in Albuquerque. Parking is available in the Hodgin Hall Alumni Center visitor lot, east of the building; or in B Lot on the northwest corner of Central Ave. and University Blvd.
