The Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) heavy construction began mid-Oct. in various locations along Central Ave. The project is 13 percent complete with construction continuing this week with the demolition of the wall that runs east and west between Hodgin Hall and Central Ave.

At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the entire construction period.

Construction updates are available on the ART website or by calling 505-398-4ART (4278). Commuters can also subscribe to an email listserv to receive ART-i-FACTS, a weekly update on street closures, detours and parking.

Drivers and pedestrians encouraged to follow safety precautions
The ART construction team put out a notice reminding motorists and pedestrians that construction is ongoing throughout the construction corridor—Coors Blvd. to Louisiana Blvd. Caution is advised whether on foot, on a bicycle or in an automobile.

Drivers should be aware that lower speed limits are in effect, and speeding fines are doubled during construction. The same goes for pedestrians. Jay walking, which is always illegal, is now not only illegal, but completely unsafe. The only safe place for pedestrians and bicyclists to cross Central Ave. is at designated cross walks.
