The Associated Students of the University of New Mexico will be partnering with Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) to host a destress event called Color and Chill as an effort the maintain mental wellness across campus on Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Building Atrium.
The event was created because student leaders in ASUNM realized mental health is an ongoing issue that continues to harm the Lobo community which impedes education. Color and Chill is designed to allow the Lobo community to come together and partake in a destressing exercise, coloring. Color and Chill will also have representatives from the SHAC available to discuss different resources that are available to Lobos including Therapy Assistance Online (TAO).
ASUNM Senator Taysear Ali is one of the lead collaborators for this event. He says, “Mental health is a major issue on campus that very rarely gets addressed. As an organization, ASUNM is putting their resources towards helping our Lobo Community and ensuring we do not lose anyone from our Pack to stress or other mental health issues.”
The event will include coloring sheets, different resources across campus and even prizes from ASUNM’s Arts and Crafts Studio.
Additionally, if the Lobo Community is interested in evaluating their mental health, the following day in the SUB Atrium SHAC representatives will be giving mental health screenings with onsite counselors available.
