The Anderson School of Management celebrates the placing of the final beam in the new McKinnon Center for Management (MCM) on Wednesday, July 26. The MCM beam signing ceremony opens to the public at 9:30 a.m., followed by a short program at 10 a.m.

Along with donors Ian and Sonnet McKinnon, and UNM officials, including Interim President Chaouki Abdallah, Interim Provost Craig White and Interim Anderson Dean Shawn Berman, will participate in this historic event.

Ian, and his wife, Sonnet, long-time supporters of UNM and the lead donors of the MCM, will be the first to sign the beam in recognition of their $7.5 million gift that made the building possible. The 18-month project is on schedule and expected to open in May 2018 giving students access to a 61,000 square foot state of the art building with larger classrooms, advanced IT services, career planning and placement center, advisement space, behavioral research lab, and marketing center.

The McKinnons both grew up in Albuquerque. Sonnet is an Anderson alumna who graduated with a BBA in finance in 1993, while Ian is a graduate of the Albuquerque Academy and serves on its Board of Trustees.  He earned a BA from Occidental College, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and was a finalist for both the Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships.

The program will be held at the site of the old Anderson School building located at 1924 Las Lomas NE, 87106. Hourly parking is available via credit/debit card at the structure located at Lomas and Yale on the north side of the UNM campus.

Reservations are recommended. To be a part of Anderson School history RSVP online.

The beam ceremony also marks the beginning of the school’s Power of YOU alumni campaign. Anderson graduates who give $1,000 or more will have their name and graduation year displayed in the Anderson Alumni Center for Student Services. Payments can be made over a three-year period and thanks to the support of an anonymous donor, ALL donations to the Power of YOU campaign will be matched dollar for dollar.

Visit Anderson Alumni Center for Student Services to find out more about this exciting opportunity or call Senior Alumni Relations Officer Darrell Garcia at 505.277.6264 to discuss the many giving options available.

The MCM construction process is moving along quickly now. You can watch the new building take shape on the Anderson website.
