Lovelace recently reached an agreement for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) to acquire Lovelace Health Plan. Current contracts between Lovelace and UNM remain in effect. Pending regulatory approval and other closing conditions, the transactions are anticipated to close approximately Dec. 31, 2013.

It is important to note that Lovelace's hospitals, physicians, clinics and pharmacies are not included in the sale.

Additionally, Lovelace has reached a long-term agreement with BCBSNM that will allow members continued access to Lovelace’s hospitals and services, as well as its physicians, clinics and pharmacies. Lovelace will continue to provide full-service medical coverage as well as continue to process payments for UNM Lovelace members. Medical inquiries should continue to be directed to the Lovelace Customer Service Number located on the back of the member’s medical plan card.

Since UNM is a key account of Lovelace, there will be a transition timeline for UNM's self-funded plan.  As more information is received, it will be communicated.

Lovelace has communicated to us that the Medicare Plan effective Jan. 1, 2014 will remain in effect for post-65 retirees with no changes to benefits or rates.
