Greg Cajete, director of UNM Native American Studies and member of Santa Clara Pueblo, is the featured guest on Native America Calling on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to noon. Native America Calling airs locally on KUNM, 89.9 FM. Indigenous knowledge is often missing in academic discussions, but Native American Studies programs draw on such knowledge in the classroom each day. At some colleges and universities, students can major or minor in Native American Studies.

Questions he will be asked include: Do you hold a degree in Native studies? How useful has it been in your career? Have you had to defend the worth of your degree? Would you like to see Native Studies programs grow?

Native America Calling is a live call-in program linking public radio stations, the Internet and listeners together in a thought-provoking national conversation about issues specific to Native communities. Each program engages noted guests and experts with callers throughout the United States and is designed to improve the quality of life for Native Americans. Native America Calling is heard on 52 stations in the United States and in Canada by approximately 500,000 listeners each week.
