Due to the City's continued work on the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (ART) Project, both Cornell at Central crosswalks are closed in order to complete concrete paving in the intersection.
Pedestrians need to use the controlled crosswalks at Stanford and at Yale—as directed by detour signs.
Pedestrians have been crossing through the work zones with disregard for the posted detour signs. The safety of individuals walking through these areas isn’t guaranteed and is illegal. The only safe place for pedestrians and bicyclists to cross Central Ave. is at designated crosswalks.
Drivers should also be aware that lower speed limits are in effect and speeding fines are doubled during construction. Individuals parking on main campus or in South Lot are highly encouraged to add more time to their estimated commute due to traffic delays.
This portion of the project is expected to last just over two-weeks. The concrete pads need to cure to complete the process.
ART heavy construction began mid-Oct. in various locations along Central Ave. The project is 20 percent complete.
Construction updates are available on the ART website or by calling 505-398-4ART (4278). Commuters can also subscribe to an email listserv to receive ART-i-FACTS, a weekly update on street closures, detours and parking.
