
The Second Annual Presidential Luminaria Awards and Diversity Celebration Fundraising dinner is Friday, March 25.
Jozi De Leon, vice president, Office of Equity and Inclusion said, "In New Mexico, luminarias ‘light the way,' The word luminaria means ‘a body that gives light.' It also is ‘a person of prominence or brilliant achievement.' We wish to recognize individuals or organizations that light the path in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion or social justice."
She added that their commitment can be in recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups, teaching, research and/or service, multicultural or cultural programming, creating cultural competence, social justice activities, community outreach or other similar activities.
Nominations are accepted in the following award categories:
Faculty Award: Up to two (2) awards
Staff Award: Up to two (2) awards
Student/Student Organization Awards: Up to two (2) awards
Community Organization Award: One (1) award
Award Criteria:
Nominee's work should demonstrate an exemplary commitment to addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, or social justice at the University of New Mexico;
Nominee's emerging or long-term commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion or social justice should be documented efforts that go above and beyond the routine expectations of the job or project;
Nominations should provide evidence to support the contribution the individual(s) or unit has made in advancing diversity, equity, inclusion or social justice.
