Associated Students for Empowerment (ASE), collaborates with Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI), Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) and other student organizations to celebrate Diversity Showcase Week. Culminating the weeklong celebration will be the Spring 2011 Disability Awareness Day on Friday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., which takes place outside the Student Union (north upper plaza).
ASE focuses on raising the campus community's awareness around accessibility, transportation and other issues facing the disabled populace. The Disability Awareness Day also aims to educate students with disabilities about available resources at UNM, as well as in the broader Albuquerque community.
There will be an obstacle course for blindfolded people, "wheelchair challenge courses" (students and staff members ride in a wheelchair around campus), and a wheel chair basketball challenge with the Kings Wheel Chair Basketball Team. These events will be fun, as well as give people a sense of what it is like to be physically challenged.
The full week's schedule is available at: Diversity Showcase Week.
