The Division of Student Affairs has announced the appointment of Dr. James Wilterding as interim executive director of Student Health and Counseling (SHAC). The previous director, Dr. Beverly Kloeppel, recently retired.
Wilterding joined the SHAC medical staff in 2012 and has served as the associate medical director since September of 2014. Prior to that, he was a faculty member in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the UNM School of Medicine.
“I am excited about the new position and the opportunity to lead and work with such a talented team of clinicians and staff,” said Wilterding.
SHAC provides comprehensive, integrated medical and counseling services to the more than 27,000 UNM main campus and Health Sciences Center students. Pharmacy services and travel medicine consultations are also available to faculty and staff as well as students.
SHAC staff also serve in consultative and collaborative roles to address university-wide issues related to wellness, mental health, infection control and emergency preparedness.
