The Division for Equity and Inclusion presents the Health Sciences Center Office of Diversity Visiting Scholar Deleso Alford, associate professor, School of Law, Florida A&M; University, on Thursday, July 12.

The first event, a critical issues roundtable, takes place from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Ortega Hall room 335. The roundtable features Alford and colleagues from UNM's main and north campuses:

The second event, Why the Truth Matters: Stories Ignored by our Healthcare, Research & Legal Systems, is set for 6 – 8 p.m. in Anthropology 163 on the UNM main campus.

Alford will discuss women as the overlooked victims of the infamous U.S. Public Health Services Syphilis Study at Tuskegee, Ala., in which the U.S. government purposely chose not to treat African American men diagnosed with syphilis.

Alford is in residence until July 27 working on her writing and hosting sessions with UNM students, faculty, staff, postgraduate learners and administrators. She is also be working with the wider New Mexico community while she is at UNM.
