UNM Professor Emeritus of History Richard W. Etulain recently published his 50th book, "Lincoln and Oregon Country Politics in the Civil War Era," (Oregon State University Press) in which he examines Lincoln's strong personal and political connections with the Pacific Northwest before and during the Civil War years.

Etulain taught at UNM from 1979 to 2001, serving as editor of the New Mexico Historical Review and later as director of the Center for the American West (now Center for the Southwest) at UNM. He is past-president of both the Western Literature and Western History associations.
