A recent Facilities Management United Way Fundraiser was filled with generosity, compassion, and an unmistakable sense of community spirit. The FM staff rallied to raise $3,195.77 for the United Way of Central New Mexico as part of the UNM Gives fundraising campaign.
The success of the FM United Way Fundraiser was heightened by the generosity of sponsors who donated prizes for the event. Special acknowledgment goes to FM vendors, including Advanced Presentation Systems, Paul Davis, Kone, Above and Beyond Cleaning and Restoration, Johnson Supply, BELFOR Property Restoration, and STOP Restoration. Additionally, several UNM departments demonstrated their commitment to the cause by contributing prizes, including University Libraries, Parking and Transportation Services, Popejoy, UNM Bookstores, Recreational Services, Office of the President, and the Copy Center.
Beyond surpassing the department’s goal of $2,000, the fundraiser fostered a sense of unity within the FM community on Halloween. In addition to raising funds, the event featured a Halloween costume contest that added a creative element to the day. Notable winners included Isabel Hernandez, who claimed the first prize for the Funniest category with her charming Red Riding Hood ensemble, and Daniel Garcia, who secured second place as a clown. Michael Baca took the top spot for Most Creative with his spooky Grim Reaper attire, while Nichole Zamora's Wednesday Adams costume earned her the second position. The Best Group category celebrated the creativity of FM Accounting, represented by Monica Candelaria, Deanna O'Dell, and Dawnette Manuelito, who came dressed to impress as Minions. Additionally, Michael Baca showcased his artistic skill by securing the first prize in the Pumpkin Contest.
Staff had the unique opportunity to raise even more money for the United Way by purchasing tickets to pie Director Alfred Sena at the pie-throwing booth. This lighthearted activity brought joy and laughter to participants and added an entertaining element to the fundraising experience.
The FM United Way Fundraiser was a resounding success. The funds raised and the community spirit exhibited on this day will support those in need within the Central New Mexico community. Special thanks go to all participants, donors, sponsors, and those who worked tirelessly to organize and execute this memorable event.
The giving portal for the UNM Gives campaign is open through Dec. 15 for those interested in contributing.
