The University of New Mexico Division for Equity and Inclusion and the Health Sciences Center Office of Diversity and their partners host a Faculty of Color Networking Reception Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 4 - 6 p.m. at the UNM Student Union Building Ballroom A.
"The racial and ethnic demographics of the student population in U.S. higher education has changed in recent years and even more dramatic shifts are projected over the coming decade," according to the 2011 article, "A New Hope: Recruiting and Retaining the Next Generation of Faculty of Color," by Luis Ponjuan, Marybeth Gasman, Elliott Hirshman and Lorenzo L. Esters. "Given these projections, it is imperative for higher education administrators to consider ways to recruit, retain and support a more demographically representative professoriate."
Faculty of Color and allies are invited to join this event to network and connect UNM's faculty of color and create a social and intellectual space for community building across programs, departments and campuses. RSVP at Diverse Reception.
"We are proud to welcome our new and returning faculty of color in partnership with many allies across the university," said Jozi De Leon, VP for Equity and Inclusion. "We feel it is critical to nurture and support the faculty that mentor and ensure the success of our students."
