The UNM Office of Parents and Families and the UNM Parent Association (PA) are set to host the seventh annual Family Weekend event Friday-Saturday, Sept. 26-27 in conjunction with UNM's Homecoming 2014: Howl@125. The UNM Parent Association has lined up multiple events to keep the whole family entertained.
A new event, “Bring your Parent to School Day” kicks things off Friday. The Office of Parents and Families wants to give parents an opportunity to see college from their student’s perspective by sitting in on a lecture or two at UNM.
Also on Friday, the annual Parent Association Golf Tournament starts with a 1 p.m. shotgun at the recently renovated UNM North Golf Course. Entries for the tournament are $50, and proceeds will benefit the PA’s scholarship fund which helps UNM students with financial need pay for school.
After the tournament, all Lobo families are invited to join the family tailgate party before the Lobos face Fresno State for this season’s homecoming game. For $40, the tailgate party will score attendees a ticket to the game at 6 p.m. and offers plenty of food and fun for the family.
Family Weekend wraps on Saturday morning with a brunch at the UNM Student Union Building ballroom C from 9 a.m. - noon. Parents can look forward to meeting other parents, board members from the PA and staff from across campus who can answer questions parents may have about the university. Brunch is free with participation in any other Family Weekend event.
“We hope to get a large turn-out this year,” said Catherine Cullen, president of the PA. “Parent-to-parent communication helps the success of our students.” Cullen added that there are more parent related events planned for this school year.
Registration for Family Weekend is now available and is required for all participants, including UNM students.
