The UNM Anderson School of Management is offering the community one last chance to tour the most prominent business school in New Mexico and share memories before the west side building is gone forever.

The Anderson School is getting ready to start a new phase in its long history by replacing the only building that has ever housed it. On Monday, Dec. 19 site demolition will begin in the Anderson parking lot and the surrounding concrete planters, stairs, and walls. The day after the Christmas holiday demolition will begin on the roof canopy and the stairs that connect the Anderson West and East buildings and all access between the two buildings will no longer exist.

In honor of the thousands of Anderson graduates the school is offering one last opportunity to alums and community members to visit the building. Dean Craig White will be on hand this Saturday, Dec. 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to greet guests, share stories, and answer questions about the 18-month long construction project, that when finished, will be known as the McKinnon Center for Management. There will be a guest book for people to sign and recount their years spent at the Anderson School.

The farewell event will be held in the Jackson Student Center just to the west of the current Anderson School. It is free to the public and will take place before Anderson’s convocation ceremony at 2 p.m. in Johnson Center.

“We envision that the McKinnon Center for Management will allow the School to continue to be at the forefront of business education in New Mexico,” said White.  “It will provide an engaging learning environment that promotes interaction amongst students, faculty and staff and it will live up to the Anderson School motto: New Mexico Business Lives Here.”

Anderson faculty member and Project Coordinator, Steven Yourstone says the new MCM will bring students and faculty together in an expansive “Living Room,” which will serve as the central gathering place for the Anderson community.  Its double-height space and grand stairway will be the entry to all school activities and services that support student success. In addition, there will be several student group study rooms and casual seating areas throughout the building. The MCM will feature a state-of-the-art career planning and placement center, advisement space, behavioral research lab, marketing center, large classrooms, and the most up-to-date IT services.

The Anderson School looks forward to visiting with the many people who have passed through its doors and looks forward to welcoming them back to the new McKinnon Center for Management in fall of 2018.
