The University of New Mexico has announced three finalists for the position of chief legal counsel. The finalists include: Loretta Martinez and Eric Bentley. Finalist Jim Pottorff withdrew from consideration late last week.
Finalist interviews will include open forums with the campus community and meetings for each candidate with various stakeholders. The open forums will take place in the Roberts Room of Scholes Hall.
A recording of the forums will be available shortly after each session on the Chief Legal Counsel Search webpage through noon on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Viewers will be required to login using their UNM credentials.
The finalists:
Loretta Martinez
Loretta Martinez currently serves as general counsel and vice chancellor for Legal Affairs at The City University of New York. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from Yale University and earned a JD from Harvard Law School.

Eric Bentley
Eric Bentley currently serves as senior associate general counsel at the University of Houston System, second in command to the vice chancellor for Legal Affairs. He received his bachelor’s degree in justice administration from Hawaii Pacific University and his JD from the University of Houston Law Center.

Jim Pottorff (withdrew from consideration)
Jim Pottorff has over 20 years of university general counsel leadership experience, including 15 years at an academic medical center. He received his bachelor’s degree at West Point, has three master’s degrees, and earned a JD from the University of Kansas where he most recently held the position of general counsel and vice chancellor for Legal Affairs.
