The UNM flag-raising ceremony conducted by the joint UNM ROTC Color Guard in observance of Veterans Day takes place Thursday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. All veterans, students, staff, faculty and community members are invited to attend.
The ceremony honors veterans, past and present, for their duty to our country. Anyone with prior military service, currently serving on Active Duty, in the National Guard or the Reserves is invited to join in a special formation.
The names of all the fallen NM heroes from the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, and any loved ones or friends whom people would like to have remembered, will be read aloud in the Alumni Chapel immediately following the ceremony. If you have someone you would like to have honored, regardless of when they served, call (505) 277-3181/3184.
The Student Veterans of UNM will also collect money for their successful "Mile of Coins" fundraiser all day Thursday at Smith Plaza. The money raised from the "Mile of Coins" will be used for the SVUNM scholarship fund for veterans and their dependents.
Members of the SVUNM previously asked organizations to collect coins for the fundraiser. These coins, in addition to money donated on Thursday, will be collected and lined up, end-to-end, over the distance of a mile.
For more information about the UNM Veterans Day Observance, call 277-3181, and for more information about the "Mile of Coins," contact Eric Ross, 850-0047.
Free parking is available in UNM's new parking structure located at Lomas Blvd. NE, third floor.
