The University of New Mexico hosts its first forum seeking input on the institution's official seal. The forum will be held Thursday, June 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in SUB Ballroom A. The forums are designed to obtain input from the campus community including alumni, staff, students and community members regarding the seal and whether or not it should be redesigned.
UNM first developed an official university seal in 1898. The original seal resembled the Territorial Seal of the State of New Mexico. Since then, the seal has undergone seven iterations and has been redesigned each time. The latest design was ratified and approved by the Board of Regents in 1969 and trademarked in 2010.
The Office of Academic Affairs will host the public forums along with the Office of the President and Board of Regents.
If you are unable to attend the forum or would like to send your comments regarding the seal, e-mail unmseal@unm.edu.
Interested individuals may also subscribe to a listserv, seal-l@list.unm.edu, to receive the latest information regarding the discussion and future forums for the seal.
