Five recipients, Elizabeth Duran-Valdez, Adan Garcia, Keira Philipp-Schnurer, David Rincon and Douglas Weintraub, received the 2015 Gerald May Outstanding Staff Awards during a recent ceremony in the Student Union Ballroom C.

The quintet serves a variety of areas across campus: Duran-Valdez is a clinical research associate in the Department of Internal Medicine/Endocrinology; Garcia works as an operations manager in the Department of Communications and Journalism, Philipp-Schnurer is a supervisor of Community Education Programs for the Latin American and Iberian Institute; Rincon is a dispatch supervisor for UNM Police Department; while Weintraub works as a senior academic advisor for Graduate Studies.

When former UNM President Gerald W. May created this presidential award for staff he said, "Staff is critical to the success of our University, and the recipients of this award are notable because they all lead by their example."

Award winners are recognized on a plaque hanging in Scholes Hall. The awards are sponsored by the Office of the President and the UNM Staff Council.
