What better way to start the holiday season and get in the spirit than giving back to the UNM community?
Now in its ninth year, #GivingTuesday is a globally recognized day of giving back that signifies the beginning of the charitable season. On Tuesday, Dec. 1, The University of New Mexico will once again be participating in #GivingTuesday and making it a #LobosGiveDay.
Anyone can show support for The University of New Mexico by giving a gift that will have a positive impact on the lives of patients, students, faculty, staff and researchers.
The UNM Gives Campaign began on Oct. 1, and Giving Tuesday is the last regular day of the open campaign. This year, maybe more than ever, critical needs across a variety of areas are being highlighted due to the worldwide pandemic.
“Each year, the UNM Gives campaign provides faculty and staff with the opportunity to give back to our community through a contribution to the United Way of Central New Mexico. This year in particular, as our community and country struggle with the challenges of COVID-19, your support and compassion have never been more critical. With your help, our pack can impact positive change—and change lives across our state,” said UNM President Garnett S. Stokes.
As part of the UNM Gives campaign, the campus community can donate directly to the UNM Foundation, an entity responsible for raising private financial support benefiting UNM and helping donors link their passions with the institution. If you wish to support a UNM program, scholarship or focus area, consider giving through the UNM Foundation.
Those wishing to donate can also choose to support scholarships, research, campus facilities, faculty and other programs. The following are links to areas of donation:

Giving Tuesday was created by a team at the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back. #GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
A team of influencers and founding partners joined forces, collaborating across sectors offering expertise and working tirelessly, to launch #GivingTuesday and have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the movement. The day has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources as a part of the social media collaboration.
