New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez signed an approximate $294 million Special Session Capital Outlay Bill (SB 1) Wednesday that includes $9 million for UNM main campus and $5.3 million in funding for Domenici Center for Health Sciences Education.

Some of the main campus projects funded include: UNM Engineering Center ($1.4 million), UNM Physics and Astronomy Building ($1.2 million) and $1.03 million for various UNM athletics projects.

The final phase of Domenici Center is one of the main projects at UNM HSC. It will add 85,700 square feet of large classrooms, laboratories, simulation, and student study space to support the colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy, and the School of Medicine. Construction is expected to begin early 2016, and classrooms should be open for instruction in the summer 2017.

The UNM branch campuses, including Gallup, Taos and Valencia, will receive $590,000 including $350,000 for a construction tech career center at UNM Gallup and $150,000 for infrastructure improvements at UNM Valencia.
