The UNM Office of the Secretary is now accepting nominations for honorary degree recipients. Honorary degrees are open to candidates who have made significant contributions to the cultural or scientific development of the Southwest or the spiritual or material welfare of its people.
Successful nominees must have exemplary record of academic or public accomplishment, and keep with UNM’s standards of quality, rigor and significance. The honorary degrees will be conferred at spring commencement.
Nominators must submit a detailed letter of reasons for the nomination. Biographical information, a record of accomplishment and supporting letters should be included. If a nominee is proposed by a department, person, or college, different from the nominee the committee must consult the appropriate faculty before making a recommendation.
The candidates will be determined by the Office of the University Secretary on behalf of the Honorary Degree Committee. Click here to read more about the nomination process and requirements.
Nominations can be sent to the Office of the University Secretary, Scholes Hall, Room 103. One can also submit nominations to univsec@unmedu. Nominations will be accepted until Friday Oct. 8, 2021.
