While the university faces tough economic times, staff of the Division of Human Resources have come together to support UNM employees across campus. They are the HR Boosters, a group convened in 2009.

The group raises funds to support Back-to-School Families, UNM employees with school age children who need a little help affording school supplies, clothes and backpacks, and Holiday Families, UNM employees who need a little help to celebrate the holidays.

"I love it," said Danica Macy, HR Boosters' member. "I get to participate in a great program with nine fun and generous colleagues. We all share the same level of commitment to give back to our UNM community."

The group hosts four events during the year to promote a sense of community through charitable giving and social networking activities.

"Our first event was a luncheon with a March Madness theme. We played a few games and served concession style food. It was great fun and most folks sported their Lobo wear in support of UNM basketball," Macy said.

Since Human Resources is located in three separate buildings, Eileen Sanchez, executive assistant to the vice president of Human Resources, said the events build camaraderie within the division as staff get to know each other during events.

"We have chosen to help our fellow UNM employees outside HR," Sanchez said. "This is what it's about, helping other people."

Last year, HR Boosters raised more than $1,000 dollars, and they plan to increase their efforts this year.
