The University of New Mexico Office of the Vice President for Research hosts its 65th Annual Research Lecture recognizing Kerry Howe on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. This award is one of the highest honors the University bestows on its faculty members in recognition of research/creative activity of exceptional merit.

Howe, a professor in environmental engineering at The University of New Mexico and the director of UNM’s Center for Water and the Environment, presents Providing Safe, Clean Drinking Water in America: Prospects for Recycling Wastewater, as part of the recognition.

Howe, who has over 30 years of experience in the water treatment industry including both consulting and academic experience, is a registered professional engineer and is board certified by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. His academic research has involved a wide variety of water treatment processes with a focus on membrane technologies for desalination and potable reuse applications. Howe is also the lead convener on UNM’s Sustainable Water Resources Grand Challenge.

He is the lead author of the textbook Principles of Water Treatment and a co-author of the book MWH’s Water Treatment: Principles and Design, the two most prominent textbooks in the field of water treatment. His degrees in civil and environmental engineering include a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MS from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
