The economic impact of Kirtland Air Force Base on the Albuquerque-area is significant. In fiscal year 2014 alone, it brought $7.6 billion into the region. On Friday, Dec.4, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., Base Commander Col. Eric Froehlich, the individual who oversees and manages this complex facility, shares his thoughts about the style and techniques necessary to successfully lead such a large enterprise at UNM Anderson’s Boerigter Business Breakfast Program at Hotel Andaluz.

Froehlich took command of the 377th Air Base Wing in May leading a 52,000 acre base that is the location of 23,000 military and civilian employees housing a variety of complex military missions, as well as, Sandia National Laboratories and other elements of the Department of Energy.

As part of his presentation, Froehlich will outline the mission of Kirtland, give details about his planning process and offer examples of how his leadership style contributes to the success of the billion dollar operation. His talk is open to the public free of charge, however, RSVPs are required. To register online go to www.mgt.unm.edu/events/rsvp/b2b  or contact Felicia Rodriquez at (505) 277.1504.

The 377th Air Base Wing provides highly trained forces in support of the U.S. Air Force nuclear enterprise and expeditionary combat forces to combatant commanders. It is the host unit for many mission partners, including the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center, Air Force Safety Center, Air Force Inspection Agency, Air Force Distributed Mission Operations Center, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Air Force Research Laboratory, 58th Special Operations Wing, 150th Special Operations Wing of the New Mexico Air National Guard, U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration and Sandia National Laboratories.

Froehlich received his commission in 1992 after graduating from the University of Tennessee with military distinction. He has commanded at the squadron and group levels and recently served as vice commander of the 82nd Training Wing at Sheppard AFB, Texas. He has held various staff assignments in the maintenance and logistics fields at the wing, center, and HQ USAF level. Froehlich has led combat deployments supporting Operation Allied Force and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
