Kohl's Donates $63,000 to UNMH

Donation to support Kohl’s Healthy Kids New Mexico Program

By

Kohl’s Cares® in collaboration with UNM Children’s Hospital (UNMH), UNM Foundation and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment has engaged in a robust media campaign to highlight issues impacting New Mexico’s children.  Kohl's Healthy Kids is an interactive website where parents, children and care-givers learn more about health issues facing New Mexico’s youngest patients.

Through a variety of engaging radio spots, Drs. Alberta S. Kong and Sylvia Negrete are interviewed discussing childhood diabetes and obesity. These physicians at UNM Children’s Hospital know the importance of these issues facing New Mexico’s kids. Clear Channel Media and Entertainment produced and distributed the interviews. They can be heard on the radio in areas surrounding Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Awareness, prevention and call to action are essential elements for the website. Visitors will find kid-approved recipes, healthy habits and doctor profiles.

“Contributions from Kohl’s Corporation help UNM Children’s Hospital sustain four mission areas – education, research, patient care and community outreach – which provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care. We are grateful for Kohl’s annual support of our local community” said Bill Uher, vice president of Development, UNM Health Science Center.

UNMH, New Mexico's only dedicated Children's Hospital, is an academic medical center with health care providers expertly trained to deliver the most advanced neonatology and pediatric care in New Mexico. UNM Children’s Hospital is part of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center which is the largest academic health complex in the state. Located on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico, UNM Children’s Hospital is also designated as New Mexico’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Since 2008, Kohl’s has donated more than $359,000 to UNM Children’s Hospital. Kohl's commitment to UNM Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys where 100 percent of net profit benefits children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl's has raised more than $231 million dollars through this merchandise program. In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares® features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 669,000 associates have donated more than 2.2 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $63 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations. Kohl’s also offers fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations. For more information, visit Kohl's Cares For Kids.
