Mark Koson, director of UNM's Ticketing Services, was one of four members elected to serve as officers on the New Mexico Lottery board. Koson was elected vice chair. Other officers elected include longtime educator Dan Salzwedel, chair; Albuquerque certified public accountant John Kubiak, secretary and treasurer; and Albuquerque city clerk Amy Bailey, assistant secretary and assistant treasurer. The officers will serve through Fiscal Year 2014.

New Mexico Lottery board members are unpaid citizen volunteers appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state senate. Board members represent the fields of accounting, business and law enforcement. Board duties include supervising the lottery’s chief executive officer, establishing policies and approving the annual budget.

The board’s other members are Clifford Stroud of Carlsbad and Salvatore Baragiola of Albuquerque.

Koson is in his 20th year at UNM. He was named associate athletics director on July 1, 1999. His duties include include the coordination of the Lobo Ticket office in the Pit as well as the UNM Bookstore Ticket Office. As director of Ticketing Services, he oversees all ticketed events at UNM. Koson has been at UNM since September of 1993.

Koson's background in event management includes stints with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust (1993), the Expo Center in Belton, Texas (1990-92), the University of Houston (1986-89) and the Denver Nuggets (1979-85).

Koson graduated from Durham College in Ontario, Canada, in 1979, with a degree in Sports and Entertainment Administration. Koson was born in Chicago and raised in Neenah, Wis. His wife, Sandie, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa.

Legislative Lottery Scholarships
The sale of lottery games benefits an in-state college tuition program. Since its inception in 1996, the New Mexico Lottery has raised $569 million for education and more than 82,600 students have attended college on Legislative Lottery Scholarships.
